Health Outreach Partners (HOP) is pleased to share a new research opportunity from UCLA that focuses on understanding barriers to prenatal care among agricultural workers and their families in California’s Central Valley.
This formative study seeks to explore the experiences of Latine agricultural workers navigating pregnancy and prenatal care while facing challenges such as geographic isolation, economic hardship, immigration enforcement, and systemic discrimination.
This research is an important step toward advancing health equity for farmworker communities, and we encourage you to share it with others who may be interested in supporting or participating. See below for details.
UCLA researchers currently seeking community stakeholders and service providers who:
- Are 18 years or older
- Live or work in one of the following counties: Calaveras, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, or Tuolumne
- Provide services, care, or advocacy related to maternal or reproductive health for agricultural workers
- May include healthcare providers, promotores, CBO/NGO staff, doulas, public health officials, or community leaders
Participation is voluntary, and interviews will be approximately 45–60 minutes, conducted either via Zoom or in person throughout the month of August. All conversations will be held with full respect for cultural and ethical considerations.
Interviews can take place in English or Spanish. Participants will receive a $50 gift card as a thank-you for their time. All responses will be kept strictly confidential and anonymous. This study is not federally funded.
This study is approved by the UCLA Institutional Review Board (IRB) and aims to
support efforts that ensure
equitable access to maternal health care for all individuals. If you or someone you know may be interested in participating—or if you have suggestions for individuals or organizations we should connect with—please don’t hesitate to reach out. I'm also happy to jump on a call to share more about the study or answer any questions.
Please feel free to forward this message to anyone who may be interested or who fits the description above. If you or you know someone who may be interested,
please contact email Meghan Erkel at megerkel@ucla.edu
Thank you in advance for your support and solidarity in uplifting the voices of agricultural communities.
